Somalia, 22 June 22, 2026 – Somalia’s Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development called for the immediate arrest of suspects accused of assaulting a woman and sharing footage of the abuse on social media.
In a statement on Sunday, the ministry strongly condemned what it described as a grave violation of the woman’s dignity, honour and rights, saying the incident went against Islamic values, Somali culture and the rights of citizens.
Family and Human Rights Development Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi said the attack was unacceptable and called on the public to reject such abuses.
“This inhumane act clearly violates our Islamic religion, Somali values and the dignity and honour of citizens,” the minister said.

The ministry directed security agencies to move quickly to arrest those responsible and take them to court.
It said the case should be handled in a way that sends a clear message that perpetrators of such abuses will not escape accountability.
The ministry also appealed to parents, relatives and members of the public who recognise the suspects to assist security agencies in locating them.
It warned against sheltering anyone involved in the assault, saying doing so would help spread crime and injustice within Somali society.
