BOSASO (Dawan) – August 6, 2026 – Puntland Defence Forces have taken control of the former Puntland Security Forces (PSF) headquarters in Bosasao, the Puntland Police said, adding that 5he site is now under government authority.
The police said in a statement that the Bosaso operation followed a planned security operation in Galkayo targeting armed groups they accused of posing a threat to Puntland’s security, stability and public order.
The statement added that 101 suspects were detained and 60 injured individuals were taken into custody during the operation, while weapons, ammunition, vehicles and other military equipment were also seized.
Puntland Defence Forces said some of the seized items included police uniforms, security equipment and materials they claimed were part of assistance previously provided by the Chinese government to the Somali Police Force.

The forces said the operations were carried out in accordance with Puntland’s constitution and laws, with the aim of maintaining security, protecting civilians and strengthening state institutions.
Puntland also called on armed individuals still opposed to the administration to surrender, while warning against providing support to groups it described as armed actors operating outside the Puntland system.
The statement said security forces will continue operations aimed at maintaining security and public order, while thanking residents for their cooperation with security institutions.
