Somalia, 25 November 2025 — The 3rd Annual Somali Clerics’ Conference opened Yesterday in Mogadishu with a call for peace and national unity anchored on religion and Somali culture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud underscored the government's responsibility to safeguard key elements of Somali society, including religion, culture, security, and public welfare.
President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to reform the country's religious and cultural affairs, including the construction of a new center for the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, and improvements to the Hajj pilgrimage process.
“I hope major conferences for scholars will be held in the near future. All of these are tangible examples that will leave a legacy for the people, achieved through hard work and transparency,” President Mohamud said.
The Conference, being held from 24-27 November 2025, attended by over 300 delegates from Somalia and abroad, was organized by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. Minister Mukhtar Robow Ali emphasized that the primary goal of the event is to strengthen unity among Somali people through the leadership of religious scholars.

“The goal of the conference I have organized is to strengthen unity and promote the integration of a peaceful society,” Robow said.
The theme of this year’s conference, ‘National Unity and the Role of Somali Clerics in Promoting Peace and Collaboration’, reflects the critical need for collective action by religious leaders in promoting peace and unity in the country.
Ibrahim Aden Ibrahim, Director-General of the Ministry of Awqaf, stressed that Somali clerics must work together to guide the nation toward prosperity and stability.
Organizers hope the conference will foster an environment where clerics can lead by example, uniting the nation in the pursuit of peace, prosperity, and security.
