Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Council of Ministers on Thursday approved a series of defense-related agreements aimed at strengthening the country’s armed forces and enhancing national security, according to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister.
The approved agreements include:
- A defense cooperation pact between Somalia and the Kingdom of Jordan.
- A military partnership agreement between Somalia and the State of Qatar.
- A defense cooperation accord between Somalia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The weekly cabinet meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, also reviewed the security situation across Somalia and ongoing operations targeting Daesh (ISIS) and Al-Shabaab militants.
The Office of the Prime Minister said the agreements are part of broader efforts to develop Somalia’s defense capabilities and expand international collaboration in training, equipment, and operational support for the Somali National Armed Forces.
