Somalia, 10 October 2025 – The Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) have issued a warning to individuals and civilian entities against the unauthorized use or trade of the army’s symbols, insignias, and equipment, stressing that anyone found violating these regulations will face strict legal action in accordance with military law.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Army Command said the warning covers the use of military uniforms, ranks, official insignias, and any other symbols exclusive to the armed forces.
The statement also cautioned workshop and garage owners against modifying, repairing, or keeping military vehicles without official authorization, noting that any violation of these instructions will result in severe measures.
The Command emphasized that the directive is aimed at protecting the integrity of the armed forces and preventing the misuse of military assets by individuals or entities seeking unlawful gain.
The statement urged all traders to refrain from selling or dealing in military clothing, equipment, or any materials belonging to the Somali National Army.
This announcement comes in the wake of the October 8, 2025 attack on Godka Jilacow detention facility in Mogadishu, in which Al-Shabaab militants disguised as soldiers used a National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) vehicle to launch the assault. The incident raised serious concerns about the misuse of military and security uniforms and vehicles by terrorist elements to infiltrate secure zones.
