Somalia, July 13 2026 – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has delivered food aid to 6,000 families in Kismayo and El Hur as part of efforts to support communities affected by drought and conflict.
According to SoDMA, 4,500 families received assistance in Kismayo, while another 1,500 families were supported in El Hur.
Aid distribution ceremonies were held in both locations and attended by SoDMA officials, local authorities and community representatives.
SoDMA officials said the recipients included families displaced by prolonged drought and conflict linked to Al-Shabaab.

The agency also called on international organisations and humanitarian partners to increase support for families affected by drought and conflict, saying humanitarian needs remain extensive.
The chairperson of the Jubaland Women’s Organisation, Fadumo Mohamed Bareey, said the selected households were among the most vulnerable in Kismayo.
“Food assistance is being distributed here to 4,500 families identified by the Kismayo district administration as those most in need,” she said.
SoDMA said the relief programme forms part of wider efforts to reduce the impact of drought on vulnerable households and that assistance to communities requiring urgent support would continue.
