Baidoa, 26 August 2026 - The South West State administration has released results for the 2025/26 Grade Eight examinations, with Somali recording the lowest average score among subjects.
The exams were conducted at 71 centres across the state, with Baidoa and Afgooye hosting the largest number.
A total of 19,788 students registered, of whom 18,103 sat the exams and 1,685 were absent, according to figures released by the administration.
Girls accounted for the larger share of absentees, 934 girls compared with 711 boys. The administration did not give a reason for the absences.

Of those who sat, 17,916 passed and 187 failed, 119 boys and 68 girls.
By subject, Technology recorded the highest average score at 87.5%, while Somali recorded the lowest at 74.8%.
The marking process took 12 days, the administration said. South West State began administering Grade Eight examinations in 2019.
