Egypt, 8 June 2026 – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki discussed the Horn of Africa, Red Sea security and regional developments in Cairo, Egypt’s presidency said on Monday.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, including trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while Afwerki expressed appreciation for Egypt’s support for Eritrea’s development priorities, according to the statement.
The two leaders also discussed developments in the Horn of Africa. Sisi said stability in the region was linked to Egypt’s national security and stressed the importance of coordination with Eritrea.

They also reviewed the situation in Sudan, with Sisi reiterating Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, security and stability.
On Red Sea security, the two presidents discussed cooperation to ensure freedom of navigation and regional stability. Sisi said Red Sea littoral states have exclusive responsibility for its governance and security, a position the Eritrean president agreed with, according to the Egyptian presidency.
The two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultations to support regional peace, stability and development.
