Kenya, June 24 2026 - The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced the suspension of its services at M.P. Shah Hospital in Nairobi, which is currently under investigation.
In a statement on Wednesday, SHA Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi confirmed that the suspension took effect on June 23.
Mwangangi said the suspension will affect services under the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
Beneficiaries seeking new admissions at the facility have been advised to transition to other SHA-contracted healthcare providers, which can be accessed through the SHA website or the Afya Yangu platform.
However, Mwangangi noted that all SHA beneficiaries already admitted to the facility before the suspension will continue receiving care until they recover and are discharged.
"Beneficiaries who require assistance with continuity of care or referral may contact SHA through the toll-free number 147," Mwangangi stated.
"SHA appreciates the cooperation and understanding of beneficiaries and stakeholders and remains committed to safeguarding access to quality and accountable healthcare services," the authority added.

The Ministry of Health has, in recent months, been ramping up efforts to weed out facilities and healthcare practitioners engaged in malpractice and fraudulent activities under the national insurance scheme.
So far, over 1,000 medical facilities have been closed, suspended, or placed under investigation in an ongoing government crackdown against fraudulent claims.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has repeatedly maintained that these closures follow forensic audits that uncovered systemic siphoning of public funds through fictitious claims, multiple billing, and "ghost" patients.
In April this year, the Cabinet Secretary revealed that 12 hospitals had been closed due to fraudulent activities linked to SHA claims, including Bungoma West Hospital, Umoja Three Medical Centre, and The Pro Elite Westlands General and Specialist Hospital.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is also actively investigating 250 individuals suspected of fraudulent activities.
