Kenya, April 25, 2026 - A routine journey turned tragic on Saturday after a trailer reportedly lost control and rammed into a Toyota Voxy along the Narok–Mai Mahiu road, killing seven people on the spot.
The crash occurred at Duka Moja, a stretch long feared by motorists for frequent accidents, about 30 kilometres from Narok town. According to witnesses, the trailer is believed to have developed brake failure before crashing into the smaller vehicle with overwhelming force.
All those travelling in the Voxy died instantly, leaving behind a scene of twisted metal and debris.
Emergency responders rushed to the area and began recovery efforts, as images from the scene showed the vehicle completely mangled. Traffic quickly built up along the busy route, with the wreckage causing major disruption between Ntulele and Duka Moja.
Motorists were urged to slow down and allow rescue teams space to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow.
More from Kenya
The latest incident adds to growing concern over safety on the Narok–Mai Mahiu corridor, which has recorded multiple fatal crashes in recent years. In December 2024 alone, a series of accidents at the same location claimed eight lives in separate incidents involving several vehicles.
National data paints an even grimmer picture. More than 1,100 people lost their lives on Kenyan roads between January and March this year, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic rules.
With schools set to reopen, authorities have warned of an impending crackdown on reckless driving, as efforts intensify to curb rising road fatalities.
