Kenya, 17 September 2026 - President William Ruto on Thursday continued his persistent attacks targeting his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta over what he termed as efforts to sabotage his administration.
President Ruto reminded Mr Kenyatta that he was there to help him when other leaders were against him, and that he helped him clinch the presidency in 2013 and defended the seat in 2017.
"I respect you, Mr Uhuru Kenyatta. I supported you four times. But when it came to your turn to support me, you shifted the goalposts," Ruto said.
Ruto supported Mr Kenyatta in 2002 when Mwai Kibaki won on a NARC coalition ticket and in 2013 when Kenyatta first ascended to presidency. Ruto would then support him in 2017 before the presidential election results were nullified. He again supported Mr Kenyatta in the repeat presidential elections the same year.
Speaking in Sindo Town in Homa Bay County, President Ruto alleged that it is the former Head of State who is playing a sponsor's role to support opposition leaders in the Linda Mwananchi faction led by Nairobi Governor Edwin Sifuna.
"They are clueless because they have only been sent by their sponsor, who is bitter seeing us succeed where he failed. We have fixed the economy he destroyed. Now even the courts have told him (Uhuru) to keep off politics," Ruto said.
Also joining him to attack Mr Kenyatta was Suba East MP Junet Mohammed, who alleged that it was Mr Kenyatta trying to destabilise the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, on her part, requested the Head of State to use his networks to save residents of Sindo, most who are the fishfolk community depending on fishing for economic sustenance, who for years have complained of harassment on Lake Victoria waters by authorities from neighboring Uganda.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, who hails from the region, told residents that the Head of State was keen to see more tarmac roads in the area, which over the years had lagged behind.
"We only gained independence here in Suba when your excellency, President Ruto, you came to power. We never had tarmac roads but now we are enjoying the fruits of your astute leadership," Mbadi said.
Mbadi thanked President Ruto for giving the nod for more kilometers of tarmac roads and also for supporting the construction of modern markets and Nyakiamo Stadium, which is estimated to cost KSh 55 million.
Mbadi attacked Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, who he said had become a 'disgrace', and vowed to make sure he does not return to Parliament.
