Somalia, 6 November 2025 — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has delivered humanitarian assistance to El Dher district in Galgaduud region, responding to appeals for support to families affected by conflict and displacement in the area.
The relief consignment — comprising four truckloads of food supplies, mainly rice — was formally handed over to local authorities and community elders in a ceremony attended by SoDMA officials and the district disaster coordinator.
Local leaders thanked SoDMA for its swift response to their request for emergency assistance, noting that the agency has consistently supported communities during times of crisis.
“The agency always responds to community requests using the resources available to it,” said Abdi Haanshi, an officer from SoDMA’s Relief Department.
SoDMA officials said the operation forms part of a broader humanitarian cooperation between Somalia and China, aimed at assisting vulnerable populations affected by conflict and internal displacement.
El Dher, located approximately 288 kilometers northeast of Mogadishu, has been severely affected by recent clashes with Al-Shabab, which have disrupted livelihoods and heightened insecurity across the district and surrounding areas.
Officials emphasized that SoDMA remains committed to delivering emergency relief and strengthening community resilience in areas impacted by drought, displacement, and ongoing insecurity.
