Somalia, 6 January 2026 The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, held a meeting with the Somali Future Council's Technical Committee in Garowe on Monday evening.
According to Puntland’s presidential office, the discussions focused on the current political and security landscape in the country, as well as the committee’s ongoing efforts to determine Somalia's future.
The Somali Future Council is a political front launched by Presidents of Puntland and Jubaland and key opposition leaders. It aims to provide a unified voice on key issues that threaten Somalia's cohesion.
The Technical Committee had earlier held a meeting with key leaders to discuss various issues, including President Hassan Sheikh’s acceptance for talks on electoral reforms.

The committee emphasized that, should their requests for talks be declined, they would proceed with organizing elections independently, a plan the opposition had previously outlined during the Kismayo conference, last year, that culminated in the formation of the committee.
The committee is composed of six members, representing the opposition group Somali Salvation Forum, Puntland and Jubaland. Each party has two members on the committee.
A meeting between the opposition and Villa Somalia is expected soon, as the latter recently expressed its readiness for political negotiations.
