GAROWE (Dawan) – August 5, 2026 – Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni said the administration has regained control of a military base that he described as a Puntland government facility operating outside the state’s official structure in recent times.
Deni praised Puntland military commanders and officers for what he called the successful planning and execution of the operation, saying the forces maintained order and upheld state authority.
“I thank the officers and military leaders for the way they planned the operation and for successfully returning that facility to the control of the Puntland government,” Deni said in a statement.
The Puntland president also thanked residents for supporting security forces and government decisions. He directed commanders and troops to maintain stability, provide medical care for the wounded, and ensure captured individuals are treated properly.

Deni called on young people in areas he said had moved outside Puntland’s government structure to join the official security forces and follow the state system.
“Puntland stands for the unity of Somalia, Somali statehood and the federal system,” he said.
The remarks came after an operation that Puntland said resulted in the takeover of a military facility, amid ongoing tensions over the administration and leadership of Puntland’s security forces.
