Somalia, 8 December 2025 – Puntland State Vice President Ilyas Osman Lughatoor on Monday chaired a drought-response meeting at the State House in Garowe, bringing together regional authorities, United Nations officials, international aid agencies and donor representatives, according to a statement from the Puntland State House.
The meeting, co-led on the international side by UN Deputy Special Representative George Conway, included officials from foreign missions, UN humanitarian agencies, NGOs and other humanitarian partners, the statement said.
Puntland’s Drought Response Committee presented an assessment outlining the impact of the dry conditions on communities and livestock across the region.

Authorities and donors agreed on the need for a rapid and coordinated humanitarian response to ensure assistance reaches affected populations as quickly as possible, according to the State House.
Monday’s meeting follows an earlier announcement by Puntland on 10 November that it would convene a donor conference on December to mobilize additional support for nearly one million people affected by the prolonged drought.
