Mogadishu (Dawan ) – Somali police displayed weapons they say were held by opposition groups following a security operation conducted early Monday in several Mogadishu neighborhoods.
The Benadir Police Commander Mahdi Omar Mumin stated that the confiscated items include 17 rifles, 14 vehicles, and other illegal equipment, most of which were owned by opposition militias involved in clashes in certain districts.
“These are the weapons that the opposition members brought with them to these areas,” the Commander said, adding that a full inventory of the seized weapons has been made and that the operation is ongoing.

The announcement comes a day after former President Shariif Sheikh Ahmed returned to his residence in the Wadajir district, after three days of heightened political tension in Mogadishu.
