Garowe (Dawan Africa) – Puntland security forces have claimed they killed ISIS fighters during operations in the Calmiskaad mountains of Bari region over the past 24 hours.
According to statements posted by Puntland Counter-Terrorism Operations on social media on Monday, the forces conducted offensives in parts of the Calmiskaad range, where they reported killing ISIS members. The statement did not specify casualty figures.
Officials also said the forces targeted ISIS hideouts in Baallade Valley, between Arabi and Kal-Idaad. According to the statement, some fighters were killed while others fled, with clashes still ongoing.
The claims have not been independently verified, though the command released photos and video footage it said showed the operations and the bodies of the killed fighters.
The Calmiskaad mountains in Bari have long been identified as a stronghold for ISIS in Somalia. Puntland has repeatedly carried out military offensives in the area as part of efforts to weaken the group. International partners have also supported Somalia in operations against both ISIS and al Shabaab, including through airstrikes.
