Somalia, 20 September 2025 – Local authorities in Armo, Puntland, rescued three people on Friday night after their vehicle was trapped in the Buraan seasonal river, following heavy rains that triggered flash floods in the area.
According to Armo officials, the car carrying the three men was swept away by strong currents, leaving the driver and his companions stranded for several hours.
In response, the district administration organized a rescue mission that deployed a drone to deliver a rope, enabling each person to be pulled to safety.
The district administration confirmed that all three individuals were safely rescued without sustaining any serious injuries.
The survivors expressed gratitude to the Armo district commissioner and the Puntland administration for their swift action.
“I want to thank you, especially the Armo district commissioner, who saved our lives and made every effort to send us a rescue drone,” said one of the rescued men.
The Armo administration also issued a warning to drivers, urging them to avoid crossing flooded valleys and waterways during the rainy season.
“I want to send a message to drivers: protect the people you transport and safeguard their property during this rainy season,” said Armo District Commissioner, Mohamed Geelle.
The rescue comes at a time when heavy rains are affecting many parts of Puntland, causing flash floods and posing new risks to transport and road infrastructure.
