Garowe (Dawan Africa) – The Puntland administration has condemned attacks targeting former federal leaders in Mogadishu, amid escalating political tensions in the capital.
In a statement issued by the Puntland Cabinet following a meeting chaired by Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugator, the regional government said it is closely monitoring the political and security situation, particularly the recent incidents in Mogadishu.
Puntland accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of being responsible for attacks reportedly carried out overnight on the residences of former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre.
“The responsibility for these attacks and any resulting damage lies with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,” the statement read.

The administration also warned that continued violence, political repression, and pressure on opposition leaders could escalate both security and political instability. It called on all parties involved in the conflict to avoid actions that might further inflame tensions.The statement comes as clashes between government forces and groups aligned with opposition figures have been reported in Mogadishu, reflecting the intensifying disputes over elections and political transitions.
As a member of the Somali Future Council, Puntland urged both sides to immediately return to political dialogue and reach agreements on electoral processes to prevent instability.
The Puntland administration reiterated that sustainable solutions can only be achieved through negotiation and political compromise, rather than through force or confrontations that deepen divisions among Somali political actors.
