DJIBOUTI, Sept. 2, 2026 - Djibouti has showcased artificial intelligence tools aimed at improving port operations, predicting cargo movements and monitoring transport infrastructure as the country seeks to strengthen its role as a regional logistics hub, the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) said on Wednesday.
DPFZA said in a post on X that it presented several AI applications at Djibouti’s first national forum on artificial intelligence, including technologies designed to predict container movements, reduce port congestion and monitor road conditions along regional transport corridors.
Among the technologies presented was DPCS Foresight, a predictive business intelligence platform that uses supply-chain data, historical information and operational performance to estimate when customers are likely to collect containers from terminals, according to DPFZA.
The authority said the technology could allow terminal operators to position containers expected to be collected soon in more accessible areas, while placing those less likely to leave immediately deeper in storage yards.
DPFZA said the system was designed to reduce container re-handling and dwell times, improve use of terminal space and ease congestion.

The platform is also intended to give importers and exporters greater predictability over cargo delivery. DPFZA said authorities could use the data to forecast import, transit and export volumes and improve infrastructure planning.
Another application showcased was DPCR Vision AI, developed by Djibouti Ports Corridor Road to monitor road conditions along regional transport corridors.
The system, launched in 2024, uses cameras to capture road images and artificial intelligence to detect defects, including potholes and cracks, and identify their locations, DPFZA said.
President Ismail Omar Guelleh told the forum that artificial intelligence could provide significant economic opportunities for Djibouti if developed and used responsibly and strategically, according to the authority.
DPFZA said Guelleh also stressed the need to align AI development with national priorities and use the technology to promote social inclusion and equitable development.
