Nairobi (Dawan Africa) – Premier Bank Kenya has launched "Premier Tap," the country’s first wearable payment solution, enabling customers to make contactless payments directly from their bank accounts using sleek, secure wearable devices. The launch took place on Thursday in Nairobi, marking Kenya’s first major step into wearable financial technology.
The devices, integrated into accessories such as rings, wristbands, and phone cases, use Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to process payments at compatible Point of Sale (POS) terminals, ATMs, and other NFC-enabled payment points. With a simple tap, customers can complete transactions quickly, securely, and without the need for physical cash or cards.
Premier Bank first introduced the NFC wearable solution in Somalia, and the Kenyan launch reflects the bank’s growing footprint in East Africa’s fintech sector.
Premier Bank Chairman Jibril Mohamed said: "Premier Tap represents the future of payments—fast, secure, and convenient. By introducing this first-of-its-kind solution in Kenya, we are empowering our customers to transact effortlessly and safely while embracing the shift towards a cashless society."
Key Features of Premier Tap:
· Enhanced Security: Encrypted payment technology reduces risks of fraud and identity theft.
· Instant Transactions: Payments are processed in seconds, improving convenience for customers.
· Global Compatibility: Works with major financial networks wherever NFC is accepted.
· Contactless and Hygienic: Eliminates physical contact with terminals, supporting safer transactions.
The wearable payment market is projected to reach $80.39 billion globally by 2030. By launching Premier Tap, Premier Bank positions itself at the forefront of this trend, offering a futuristic payment experience and advancing financial inclusion in Kenya.
