Kenya, June 28 2026 — Police have recovered 14.1 kilograms of suspected cannabis in Busia County as the National Police Service (NPS) continues to intensify its nationwide crackdown on the trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs.
According to the NPS, officers from Busia Police Station made the recovery during routine patrols within the Busia Central Business District on Saturday after receiving information from a member of the public about an unattended sack that had been abandoned at the Busia Bus Stage by an unidentified boda boda rider.
The officers responded immediately and searched the suspicious package, discovering nine parcels of suspected cannabis wrapped in yellow cellotape. The recovered drugs weighed approximately 14.1 kilograms.
Police said investigations have been launched to establish the origin of the consignment, identify those involved in the trafficking operation, and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
The seizure comes amid an intensified nationwide campaign by the National Police Service targeting drug trafficking networks through intelligence-led operations, routine patrols, and enhanced collaboration with members of the public.

In recent weeks, security agencies have stepped up anti-narcotics operations across the country, resulting in multiple recoveries of illegal drugs and the arrest of suspected traffickers. Authorities say the renewed crackdown is aimed at disrupting supply chains, dismantling criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade, and enhancing public safety.
The National Police Service has urged members of the public to continue sharing information on suspected criminal activities, noting that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against narcotics and other forms of crime.
