Egypt, 17 November 2025 - The battle for the 2025 African Player of the Year is heating up, and three exceptional players are in line to scoop the award: Victor Osimhen from Nigeria, Mohamed Salah from Egypt, and Achraf Hakimi from Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the final shortlist, setting the stage for the celebration of the continent’s best footballer.
Victor Osimhen has become one of the brightest stars in world football.
The Nigerian forward led Napoli to its first Italian league title in over 30 years, scoring vital goals and earning huge respect in Europe.
His energy, determination, and ability to lead the line have made him a hero back home. Osimhen’s story inspires many young Africans.
From playing on the streets of Lagos to becoming one of the top strikers in Europe, he shows what hard work and belief can achieve.
Having already won the 2024 African Player of the Year, Osimhen hopes to defend his title and cement his name among Africa’s greatest.
He is currently a Galatasaray player.
Mohamed Salah needs little introduction. Season after season, he continues to deliver outstanding performances for Liverpool in England, making him a club legend already. Salah’s mix of speed, calm finishing, and football intelligence has kept him at the top of his game for years.
Off the pitch, he is also known for his humility and charitable acts, making him a beloved figure not only in Egypt but across Africa. Winning this award again would mark his third, placing him alongside legends like Samuel Eto’o and Yaya Touré in the record books.
Achraf Hakimi makes history every time he steps on the pitch. The Moroccan defender has been a key figure for Paris Saint-Germain, known for his fast runs, defensive strength, and attacking vision.
His performances during the 2022 World Cup were unforgettable, helping Morocco reach the semi-finals, the first African nation to ever do so. Hakimi represents the modern African player: disciplined, skilled, and unafraid to dream big.
Both Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi have played a huge part in helping their national teams qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Who will win it?
This year’s final is more than just a contest of skill. It is a celebration of Africa’s growing strength in world football. Each finalist has carried the pride of a nation, and their success proves that African talent continues to shine bright on the global stage.
The winner will be announced at the CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, next month. No matter who lifts the trophy, the entire continent will celebrate, because all three have already made Africa proud.
