Kenya, May 30, 2026 - The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), in collaboration with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), convened key criminal justice stakeholders in Kajiado County for an inter-agency conference aimed at strengthening investigations, prosecutions and enforcement efforts in the border county.
The forum, held in Kitengela under the theme “Enforcement and Prosecutions in Kajiado as a Vibrant Border Town,” brought together representatives from the justice sector, government agencies and the business community to address emerging crime trends and enhance collaboration in the administration of justice.
The conference brought together key stakeholders within the criminal justice sector, including the ODPP, the Judiciary, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Police Service (NPS), the Office of the Attorney General, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Department of Children Services, Probation and Aftercare Services, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the County Government of Kajiado, TradeMark Africa and the Kajiado business community.
The conference was graced by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, who served as the chief guest, and Kajiado County Commissioner Michael Yator. Governor Lenku commended the ODPP for its continued commitment to strengthening prosecution services within the county.
Governor Lenku hailed the collaborative efforts spearheaded by the ODPP, noting that effective cooperation among institutions plays a key role in promoting justice and public confidence in the legal system.
Speaking during the conference on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Dorcas Rugut emphasized the importance of collaboration among justice sector stakeholders in achieving a fair and just society.
“A just and fair society can only be achieved through collaboration with all stakeholders within the justice system,” she said.
Ms Rugut further highlighted the unique security challenges facing Kajiado County due to its strategic position as a border county neighbouring Tanzania. She noted that the location exposes the county to various cross-border and transit crimes, increasing the need for stronger coordination among agencies.

She called for honest and constructive conversations among stakeholders to identify practical solutions aimed at improving prosecution services in the county.
The Deputy DPP also observed that criminals are increasingly embracing technology to conceal their activities and evade detection, a trend she said demands improved investigative capacity and modern approaches to evidence gathering.
“A case is only as good as the evidence available,” Rugut said, adding that effective investigations can only be achieved through close cooperation between investigative and prosecutorial agencies.
Also in attendance was Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Violet Kerubo.
The conference featured a range of presentations by experts drawn from the ODPP, the Judiciary, IPOA, DCI, the National Police Service and other partner agencies. Discussions focused on gaps in the investigation and prosecution of land disputes, challenges encountered by prosecutors and investigators, emerging trends in IPOA cases, human-wildlife conflict, crime patterns in Kajiado County and money laundering investigations under POCAMLA.
Participants also deliberated on revisions and appeals and engaged in a plenary session that fostered dialogue, knowledge sharing and the identification of practical measures to enhance investigations, prosecutions and inter-agency collaboration within the county.
The conference focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration, improving investigations and enhancing the effectiveness of prosecution services in Kajiado County.
