Kenya, June 22, 2026 - The National Land Commission (NLC) has announced plans to acquire land in Trans Nzoia County for the construction and upgrading of the Kitale–Morpus section of the East African Community (EAC) Kenya–South Sudan Road Link.
In a gazette notice, NLC chairman Abdillahi Alawy confirmed that the commission is acquiring the land on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), which will oversee the construction of the project.
The acquisition will be done in line with Section 110 of the Land Act and follows Gazette Notice No. 12819, according to the commission. The earmarked pieces of land are located in West Pokot and belong to individual owners and organisations.
Affected individuals have been directed to visit the commission's offices in Nairobi in person to inquire into issues of propriety of the proposed acquisition, compensation, and any other relevant issues.
"NOTICE is given that the National Land Commission intends to acquire a parcel of land shown in the schedule hereunder on behalf of KeNHA in accordance with section 110 of the Land Act and further to Gazette Notice No. 12819 of 4th October, 2024," the notice read.
"Interested persons should inspect plans of the affected land at the offices of the Commission at Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, and County Coordinator's Offices in Trans Nzoia County, during official working hours," it added.

The Kitale–Morpus road is a key segment of the broader regional transport corridor aimed at boosting economic integration among East African Community member states and improving access to markets in northern Kenya and neighbouring South Sudan.
The commission has also revealed plans to acquire a piece of land in Kakamega County that will facilitate the construction of the Mumias Deputy County Commissioner's Residence.
The acquisition is set to be executed on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration in accordance with Section 110 of the Land Act in Kakamega County.
"Interested persons should inspect plans of the affected land at the offices of the Commission at Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, and County Coordinator's Offices in Kakamega County during official working hours," the commission said.
