The Mwache Dam project is one of the government's flagship water infrastructure projects intended to boost water security in Mombasa and Kwale counties, which have historically faced recurring water shortages.
During a monthly technical progress review meeting for the project last week, the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, noted that the construction of the dam is currently 8 percent complete.
The PS stressed the need for all who are overseeing the project to strengthen coordination, expedite resolution of outstanding issues, and provide the necessary support across all components of the project to ensure the timely completion of the dam.
“The meeting reviewed key aspects of project implementation, including progress of dam construction works, compensation of Project Affected Persons (PAPs), and compliance with Environmental and Social Safeguards requirements,” the Ministry of Water said in a statement on June 11.
