The committee has been instructed to begin work immediately and ensure the election is conducted transparently, efficiently and in line with the law.
Samatar has served as Acting Speaker since the post was vacated on June 10, 2026, when former Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur ‘Madobe’ was elected leader of South West State.
Aden Madobe was first elected Speaker of the House of the People in 2007 and served until 2010. He was elected to a second term in April 2022. He is one of Somalia’s longest-serving parliamentary leaders.
The appointment clears the way for the election of Aden Madobe's successor. The committee is expected to elect its own leadership, finalize electoral procedures, and announce a timetable for candidate registration and voting.
