Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s National Security Advisor has reaffirmed his decision to resign from office, despite the President declining to accept his initial resignation, multiple sources have confirmed to Dawan Africa.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the advisor formally submitted his resignation letter last week, citing internal frustrations and differences in approach over the country’s security agenda. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reportedly declined to accept the resignation and urged the advisor to remain in his position.
However, the advisor has since reiterated his decision to step down, making clear to the Office of the President that his departure is final.
“He put his resignation on the President’s desk. The President did not accept it—but the advisor insisted,” a senior government source told Dawan Africa under condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
While the Presidency has not issued an official statement, aides close to the matter suggest that consultations are ongoing regarding a potential replacement. The advisor, who has held the post since 2022 played a central role in shaping national security coordination and liaising with international partners.
This development comes at a time when Somalia faces complex security challenges, including the federal offensive against Al-Shabaab and the recalibration of regional military alliances.
