July 16, 2026 - The Muslim for Human Rights (MUHURI) has called for greater unity and collaboration among civil society organizations (CSOs) in Garissa County, urging stakeholders to build stronger networks to enhance advocacy, improve service delivery.
Speaking after convening a three days stakeholders meeting, Garissa County Coordinator for the Muhuri Abdihakim Shuriye said a strong and vibrant civil society that is united for the common interest of the community is needed to address various challenges including governance, human rights and development.
The organization has convened several such meetings through Kios foundation aimed at capacity building in terms of fund raising as well as putting in place leadership structures for the civil society network.
“Our aim is to have a stronger civil society that has its own structures and can drive its own agenda, muhuri will continue supporting initiatives to bring together the Garissa Civil society,” he said.
The Garissa Civil society network drawn from self help groups, local Community based Organization (CBO) and NGOs were urged to be proactive and prioritize in addressing critical issues within the society.
During the meeting the stakeholders pledged to be committed to a common goal and forge ahead to fight from a united front saying the county is facing serious challenges that needs CSOs attention.

Garissa County Human right network chair Muktar Dahir Osman hailed Muhuri for spearheading the process and supporting the CSOs to come together.
“There was no leadership structure for the CSOs and also dormant basically there was no umbrella body but at least now for the last one year we have been meeting and we now have structures,” he said.
He said all CSOs organizations have now come together and created thematic areas that they can work in, adding that they will soon have officials assigned to different undertakings.
“We appreciate Muhuri so much for these efforts in bringing the CSOs network together and necessary support, we will now be more vibrant than before,” he said.
The CSOs created different thematic areas including Human rights, advocacy and media, peace and security, democracy and governance, research and digital innovation.
Others include agri-livestock, economic livelihoods and climate change. wash and health systems were also included as thematic areas.
