Mogadishu, 31 August 2026 – Banadir Governor Hassan Mohamed Muungaab said on Monday Mogadishu Municipality plans to resettle families displaced by road construction and those living in informal settlements.
Muungaab said a total of 1,058 plots will be developed in Daarusalaam on the outskirts of Mogadishu. Of these, 1,000 plots will be allocated to families being resettled, while 58 plots will be reserved for public services.
He said the families receiving the land will not be charged any payment and will also be provided with official ownership documents.
The planned site is located in the Haji Abdi section of Daarusalaam district. The Governor said land of this scale is not available within central Mogadishu, adding that the municipality plans to extend basic services to the new settlement, including water, electricity and other community facilities.

The 58 plots reserved for public use will accommodate facilities including a local administrative office, police station, maternal and child health centre, small market and mosque.
The Governor said the public facilities will be developed through cooperation between Mogadishu Municipality, the local administration and residents, with community needs taken into account.
He added that the resettlement programme will continue, with the municipality planning to acquire additional land in Daarusalaam, Kaxda and Garasbaaley to relocate more families.
