Djibouti (Dawan Africa) – More than 30 delegations from foreign governments and international organizations attended the inauguration ceremony of Djibouti President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh on Saturday after his re-election for a sixth consecutive term.
The ceremony in Djibouti City brought together heads of state, senior government officials, diplomats and representatives from regional and international organizations, underscoring Djibouti’s diplomatic and strategic importance in the Horn of Africa.
Among those attending was Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who traveled to Djibouti for the event as the two neighboring countries continue efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.

Guelleh, who first came to power in 1999, secured another term in the 2026 election after previous victories in 2005, 2011, 2016 and 2021.
Djibouti has expanded its regional role during Guelleh’s presidency, positioning itself as a key hub for maritime trade, logistics and security operations along one of the world’s busiest shipping corridors.
The country hosts several foreign military bases and controls strategic ports linking East Africa to international maritime routes through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
