MOGADISHU, Somalia, 12 September 2026 Mogadishu Port Authority signed an agreement with Kalkaal Hospital on Friday to provide healthcare services to port workers.
The agreement was signed by officials from the two institutions in Mogadishu, according to statements by the port's management and Kalkaal Hospital.
Mogadishu Port Authority General Manager Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur Ameriko said the deal was the first of its kind for the port and would focus on medical needs of its employees.
He thanked Kalkaal Hospital's management for agreeing to provide medical services to port workers at affordable rates.
“This is the first agreement we have made that provides care or treatment for our employees,” Ameriko said, adding that workers at the port operate around the clock and need support beyond their salaries.
He said employee welfare was an important priority because the port is a national institution and a major source of tax revenue for the Somali government.

Kalkaal Hospital Director Dr. Abdihalim Abdullahi Saal thanked the port's management for selecting it to provide services to its employees.
“We are happy that they recognised their employees need people who can take care of and seek the services they need,” Saal said.
Mogadishu Port Authority Deputy General Manager Dr. Ali Haji said improving workers' well-being was among the priorities identified by the port's management.
He said the healthcare agreement was part of wider efforts to improve employees' working conditions and access to services.
Under the agreement, workers will receive healthcare services at discounted rates, while the two sides also discussed training in emergency response and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The port's management said it expected to review the results of the partnership after a year.
