Ugaas Abdirizak Ugaas Abdullahi Ugaas Hashi Faracade was formally installed as the new traditional leader following the death of his father, according to details from the event.
The ceremony drew senior Somali officials, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and Upper House Speaker Cabdi Xaashi, as well as diplomats and members of the public.
Traditional elders said the position of Ugaas follows a hereditary system, typically passing to a son or a suitable member of the ruling family. They stressed that the role is primarily cultural and social, and should remain separate from political affairs.
