United States, 17 June 2026 - Microsoft Edge is set to transition to a two-week release cycle beginning in August, a move Microsoft says will enable faster delivery of new features, security updates, and performance improvements to users.
In a statement, the tech company said the changes will take effect with Microsoft Edge version 152, which is expected to enter the Stable channel on 27 August 2026, allowing users to receive updates every two weeks instead of the current monthly schedule.
Microsoft has assured that the updates are specifically aimed at benefiting organisations that rely on technological innovation by providing a steady stream of smaller, more manageable updates rather than larger monthly releases.
“Microsoft Edge is moving to a two-week release cycle, bringing new features and improvements to users and organizations faster than ever,” the company has stated.
“This is great news for teams that thrive on innovation: instead of waiting a full month for the next update, you get a steady, continuous stream of new capabilities to put to work sooner,” it added.
Microsoft has, however, clarified that its Extended Stable channel, which was introduced in 2021 for organisations that prefer a slower and more predictable update rhythm, will be affected by the schedule changes.
The company has said that the Extended Stable will receive feature updates every fourth release, including versions 156, 160, and 164, thus maintaining its existing eight-week update cycle.

The new cycle is, however, expected to result in smaller changes for users using the Stable channel, with each update release expected to contain roughly half the amount of new content compared to previous monthly updates.
The company says this will accelerate the delivery of security and platform updates while making it easier for organisations to validate and deploy them.
“Both channels receive critical security updates. The difference is how quickly new features arrive: Stable delivers them on the new 2-week cycle, while Extended Stable spaces feature updates over an 8-week window for organisations that prefer a longer planning rhythm,” the company said.
