Somali Regional State has launched construction of a vocational and technical college in Qabribayax, a project authorities say will help expand skills training and create new opportunities for employment and self-reliance.
Somali Regional State President Mustafe Mohamed Omar and the head of the regional Office of Skills and Employment, Hussein Gaid, attended the ground-breaking ceremony.
The college is expected to cost more than 482 million birr, equivalent to approximately $3 million, and is scheduled to be completed within 24 months. The project is being implemented by the regional Office of Skills and Employment.

The institution is expected to provide vocational and technical training aligned with labour-market needs, with a particular focus on young people and the wider local community.
Once completed, the college is expected to contribute to job creation, promote entrepreneurship and self-employment, and develop a skilled workforce capable of supporting economic and social development in Qabribayax and surrounding areas.
The project forms part of broader efforts by the Somali Regional State to expand vocational and technical education and equip young people with practical skills that can improve access to employment and economic opportunities.
