Somalia, 11 June 2026 – Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur Madobe took office as leader of Somalia’s South West State on Thursday, following a handover ceremony in Baidoa, the regional capital.
Madobe took over from Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, who had been leading the South West State administration on an interim basis.
The ceremony was held at the presidential palace in Baidoa and was attended by officials from the federal government, the South West State administration, government institutions, politicians, traditional elders and other guests.
Jibril handed over office documents to Aden Madobe, congratulating him on his election and wishing him success in his duties.

Aden Madobe thanked the interim leader for his work during the transition period and pledged to continue efforts to strengthen peace, development and state-building in South West State.
The handover came a day after Aden Madobe was elected leader of South West State in a vote held in Baidoa.
The South West State presidential election drew close attention from federal authorities, local political actors and international partners.
