MOGADISHU (Dawan) — Somalia’s ruling Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP), led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has announced a leadership reshuffle following a decision by its top leadership council.
According to an official statement, Dr. Hussein Sheikh Mohamud, who previously served as Deputy Secretary-General, has been promoted to Secretary-General in line with the party’s constitution and internal regulations. Hussein, a former senator, also serves as a senior constitutional affairs adviser to the president.
Meanwhile, MP Hussein Mohamed Noor (Dhagaweyne), who formerly held the position of Secretary for Internal Affairs and Politics, has been appointed as the party’s Deputy Secretary-General.
JSP congratulated both officials on their new roles, expressing confidence in their ability to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

The changes follow the resignation of former Secretary-General Odawaa in late March 2026, who cited a “deepening breakdown in leadership.” The resignation, along with other high-profile departures, signaled internal tensions within the ruling party.
The reshuffle comes as JSP prepares for direct elections and seeks to strengthen its leadership structure and expand its political activities across the country.
