Kenya , January 28 , 2026 - Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers have dealt a major blow to wildlife traffickers after arresting three suspects in Lokichar, Turkana County, and seizing 42 kilogrammes of elephant ivory alongside leopard and python skins.
In a statement issued to newsrooms on Wednesday, KWS said the arrests followed a covert intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of a motorcycle used to ferry the illegal trophies.
“The suspects were found in possession of elephant ivory and protected species skins, confirming sustained attempts by criminal networks to profit from wildlife crime,” KWS said, adding that the operation underscored the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on poaching and trafficking.
The three suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

KWS warned that poaching threatens Kenya’s biodiversity, undermines tourism and robs future generations of natural heritage, stressing that wildlife is worth far more alive than as illegal trophies.
“Poaching destroys ecosystems and livelihoods for short-term gain. Protect our heritage and choose conservation over crime,” the agency said.
