Kenya, June 08, 2026 - The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the temporary closure of several key roads in Nairobi for up to eight months to allow for construction works.
The authority said a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road will be partially closed from Thursday, June 11, until Thursday, June 18, 2026.
According to KURA, the closure will allow for the installation of a twin cross culvert along the route.
Additionally, a section of Kenyatta Avenue at Valley Road/Jakaya Kikwete Road will be closed from Friday, June 12, 2026, until February 12, 2027, to pave the way for bridge construction works.
A section of Haile Selassie Avenue will also be partially closed from Friday, June 12, until Monday, October 12, 2026.
KURA said the closure is intended to facilitate bridge construction works along the route.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes and follow directions from traffic police officers and marshals deployed along the affected roads.
The authority said the closures are intended to ensure the safety of road users while minimising traffic disruptions during construction.

“The Authority seeks to partially close several roads within Nairobi. We kindly ask for your cooperation as we strive to transform urban mobility,” KURA said in a statement.
The announcement comes as the government continues efforts to rehabilitate and expand road networks in Nairobi to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion.
During a development tour in Nairobi last year, President William Ruto said the government was implementing a 70-kilometre road network project across the capital.
According to the President, the phased project forms part of the government's broader strategy to modernise Nairobi and support economic growth.
"We have rolled out a comprehensive plan that will change the face of Nairobi to make it a top global hub," Ruto said.
"In the first phase, we are constructing at least 70 kilometres of roads within the city to facilitate trade, ease traffic, and spur growth," he added.
