Kenya, April 30,2026 - The Kenya Railways has urged Madaraka Express Passengers to ensure that they arrive at their departure stations at least one hour before their scheduled travel time, due to the ongoing rains.
In a statement on Wednesday, the agency said that early arrival will allow seamless processing during ticketing, security checks, and boarding, which could be affected due to delays on roads leading to the stations.
The agency has noted that despite the bad weather conditions, trains will depart strictly as scheduled.
Kenyans have been encouraged to contact the agency through its official communication channels, including phone numbers 0709 907 000, 0709 907 555, email: info@KRC.co.ke, or visit its official website for any clarification.
“Due to the ongoing heavy rains and traffic snarl-ups, passengers are advised to arrive at their departure station at least one (1) hour before the departure time indicated on their ticket,” Kenya Railways stated.
“Kindly note that trains will depart strictly as scheduled. We appreciate your cooperation as we continue to enhance service efficiency and punctuality,” it added.
The advisory comes as heavy rains continue to disrupt movement in several parts of the country, causing traffic snarl-ups and delays, as well as infrastructural damage, especially in major urban areas.
More from Kenya
In a statement on Wednesday, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said that devastating floods experienced in Nairobi this week have led to the loss of lives and displaced hundreds of residents across several estates.
Mwaura indicated that residents living in low-lying areas, including Kasarani, Roysambu, and surrounding neighbourhoods, were the most affected following this week's heavy downpour.
The government has further cautioned residents living near the Nairobi River, especially in Mwiki, to move to higher ground as water levels remain high and the river is close to bursting its banks.
The same advisory applies to residents in Garissa County and Tana River County, which are prone to flooding, with water levels in key dams, including Masinga Dam, rising to dangerous levels.
“The general public is advised to remain vigilant as heavy rains are expected to persist across various parts of the country. The Government will maintain continuous surveillance and provide timely updates,” Mwaura said.
“We call upon all citizens to strictly adhere to official advisories, report emergencies promptly to the nearest disaster management offices, and cooperate fully with authorities,” he added.
