Kenya, April 11, 2026 - The Kenya National Highways Authority has partnered with the Waze app to improve road safety along transport corridors across the country.
In a statement, the authority said that through the app, motorists will access vital real-time road information, including instant alerts on accidents and crashes.
The authority has further said that the partnership will also allow motorists to report and view alerts on ongoing road works and potholes, potentially reducing traffic disruption.
Members of the public can access the app through both Android’s Google Play and iOS’s App Store.
“ KeNHA has partnered with the Waze app to make Kenya a moving country. Simply click on the icon on the map and the app will provide more information on the alert,” the authority stated.
The initiative comes at a time when the government is leveraging technology to make roads safer, even as the country continues to experience traffic management challenges due to increased traffic volumes and other urban mobility challenges.
The new initiative supplements other technological advancements deployed by the authority, which include AI-powered iRAP road safety assessments, mobile dynamic weighbridges, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
These measures target blackspot reductions, overloading prevention, and automated monitoring of traffic rules, and are particularly deployed in unsafe road corridors.
Other government agencies, such as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), have also deployed AI-powered smart cameras, instant fine systems, and digital enforcement tools to enhance road safety on roads across the country.
The government is currently investing in the construction of 28,000 kilometres of roads nationwide, heightening the need for strengthened road safety measures.
Speaking during a meeting with key stakeholders in the transport sector in late February, Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said that the government is spearheading fresh tech-backed reforms to handle traffic accidents.
Omollo said that key among the reforms include the digitization and automation of the traffic police reporting process, as well as better interoperability between the National Transport and Safety Authority and the Kenya Judiciary to streamline case management.
