Kenya, 14 December 2025 - Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has raised alarm over what he termed the reckless disposal of strategic national assets, warning that such moves threaten Kenya’s economic sovereignty and public interest.
Speaking in Kiambu County after meeting the leadership of the Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) at their headquarters, Kalonzo said the country was at a critical crossroads as Kenyans grapple with rising economic pressure, weakening institutions and growing public anxiety over governance.
The former Vice President held talks with the Agikuyu Council’s leadership led by chairman Wachira Kiago, alongside several elders drawn from the council’s national and community structures.
The meeting also brought together members of the KCE University and College Chapter, who were undergoing initiation.
Kalonzo said the engagement focused on values-based leadership, accountability and the responsibility of young people to safeguard the country’s future.
“Kenya needs sober leadership, honest dialogue and the courage to defend the public interest against recklessness and capture by narrow interests,” he said.

A key concern raised during the discussions was the proposed disposal of East African Portland Cement, which Kalonzo said raised serious questions about transparency, economic independence and the protection of public assets.
He noted that the fate of such strategic institutions should not be decided without full public scrutiny, warning that short-term interests could undermine long-term national stability.
The Wiper leader also expressed concern over challenges facing Kenya’s education sector, saying the country needed policies that genuinely secure opportunities for the youth amid a difficult economic environment.
Kalonzo was accompanied by Wiper Patriotic Front Deputy Chairperson Ann Kanyi, East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kennedy Musyoka and his wife Doreen, as well as Wiper National Executive Committee member and Diaspora Secretary Helen Ndeti, who is also a Machakos County MCA.
He thanked the Kikuyu Council of Elders for the opportunity to engage at what he described as a defining moment for the nation, reiterating his call for inclusive dialogue and responsible leadership as Kenya navigates mounting economic and political challenges.
