Doolow, Somalia – A significant development initiative aimed at improving border communities in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia has been launched following high-level discussions between the Jubbaland administration, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The meeting, held in Doolow, was chaired by the First Vice President of Jubbaland, Mahmoud Sayid Aden, and attended by key government officials, members of parliament, and local authorities from Doolow and Beled-Hawo. An international delegation, including representatives from IGAD and IOM, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in fostering sustainable development in border areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Mahmoud Sayid Aden underscored the significance of the initiative in improving the livelihoods of border communities and reaffirmed Jubbaland’s commitment to its successful implementation.
"We are fully committed to ensuring that this project progresses smoothly. We will provide the necessary security and framework for its execution. Our priority is the well-being of our people, and we will not waver in our dedication to this initiative," he stated.
Funding and ImplementationFunded by the European Union (EU) through IOM, the DARIS WACAN project will be implemented over three years in six border districts across the three countries. IGAD, as a regional body, will play a crucial role in facilitating its execution.
The project aims to enhance stability, address socio-economic challenges, and foster regional cooperation among Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia, ultimately contributing to sustainable development in the region.
