Somalia, 23 October 2025 — The Jubaland cabinet convened on Thursday for its weekly session to assess progress for the upcoming local council elections.
During the meeting, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation presented an update on electoral planning and readiness.
The session comes amid protracted political tensions between Jubaland and the Federal Government, a standoff that has entered its second year. The dispute revolves around the conduct of elections, with Mogadishu advocating for a one-person-one-vote model, while Jubaland maintains its right to manage the process independently.
The Cabinet, chaired by President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, also reviewed updates from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism on the new Jubaland Tourism Policy, and from the Ministry of Youth and Sports on youth development programs and the ongoing construction of the Ras Kamboni Sports Stadium.
Officials said the meeting underlined Jubaland’s broader commitment to governance, public service delivery, and regional development, even as political uncertainty over election modalities continues.
