Yemen, 29 December 2025 Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi movement in Yemen, on Monday warned that its forces would attack Israel if it establishes military bases in Somaliland.
The warning was in reference to Israel's recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, a move that has angered Somalia and its allies.
Al-Houthi condemned Israel's announcement, calling it an "evil act" aimed at targeting Somalia, neighbouring countries, Yemen, and nations bordering the Red Sea.
He stated that the recognition is politically and legally unacceptable, asserting that it constitutes a violation of international law and Somalia's sovereignty.
The Houthi leader added that the recognition could pave way for Israeli military bases in the region, which he noted would be a threat to Somalia, Yemen, and the entire Arab world.

He warned that Houthis would treat Israel's presence in Somaliland as an act of war and take any necessary actions to counter it.
He called on countries bordering the Red Sea and the broader Arab and Muslim world to prevent Israel from violating Somalia's sovereignty.
The warning comes amid ongoing conflict in the middle east. The Houthis have previously launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israel’s interests in the Red Sea as a response to Israeli actions against Palestinians in Gaza.
