South Africa, 29 December 2025 South Africa has warned that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state could jeopardize the security and stability of the Horn of Africa, stressing that the decision is a direct violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
A statement from the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the country’s commitment to the African Union’s principles regarding respect for borders, describing it as the continent’s primary safeguard against conflict.
“This recognition violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia and poses a great threat to peace in the Horn of Africa,” the statement said.
The South African government warned that Israel’s actions could lead to fragmentation and destabilization within the region.
