Kenya, 5 December 2025 - Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga has broken his silence on the punishing tribulations he says he is enduring after falling out with Governor Gladys Wanga over the Kasipul by-election.
Speaking candidly, Magwanga revealed that his office at county headquarters has been locked for days, denying him access and preventing him from carrying out any official duties.
He has also been stripped of the crucial Agriculture docket – a role he was handed under a post-2022 election agreement personally brokered by the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“I report to work every morning, but I have no office to sit in, no docket to run, and no responsibilities,” Magwanga said.
“My office remains locked. I am technically free – yet I am being openly frustrated for exercising my constitutional democratic right to support the candidate of my choice in the Kasipul by-election.”
The deputy governor insists the retaliation began immediately after he publicly backed a candidate who was not the official ODM choice – a decision that infuriated Governor Wanga and senior party officials.
Although he still draws his salary and reports daily, Magwanga says he now spends his days idle, unable to serve the people of Homa Bay.

Despite the escalating standoff, Magwanga stressed that the rift is purely political.
“I have no personal bad blood with my boss, only political differences,” he maintained, adding that he had initially chosen to remain silent to see how far the matter would go.
The county government is yet to issue an official response to the claims.
For now, the locked doors at the deputy governor’s wing have become the stark symbol of a deepening leadership crisis that allies of both camps admit has been simmering since the 2022 elections – and which the Kasipul by-election has finally brought into the open.
