Somalia, 25 December 2025 The President of Hirshabelle, Ali Abdullahi Hussein ‘Ali Guudlaawe’, ha congratulated the residents of Banadir Region and the Federal Government of Somalia for the successful completion of the local elections in Mogadishu.
The President stated that Mogadishu has written a new chapter in its democratic history, as hundreds of residents participated in the polls.
"Today, the people of Banadir have written a new chapter of governance, and it is a memorable day," said Ali Guudlaawe in a statement.

He said the one-person, one-vote election held in Mogadishu had been a long-awaited endeavor for Somalia.
"The one-person, one-vote electoral process was something the Somali people had eagerly awaited, and today citizens had the opportunity to cast their votes for the parties they believe can represent their desires," the statement added.
Hirshabelle is among Federal Member States, where voter registration for local council elections is taking place, with the Electoral Commission having started the process earlier.
