Kenya, April 9, 2026 - Anger spilled onto the streets in Vihiga County on Thursday as residents blocked the Kisumu–Busia highway, protesting the recent attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
In Luanda town, demonstrators lit bonfires and marched along the busy road, bringing traffic to a halt for hours and forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the protesters demanded swift arrests, saying the assault on their leader had crossed a line.
“We know the people who beat our Senator… we are ready to bring forward the evidence,” one protester said, vowing that the community would not stay silent.
The demonstrations disrupted transport across the key route, with images showing long queues of stranded vehicles as tensions rose.

The protests come a day after Osotsi was attacked in Kisumu, where he had reportedly made a routine stop before being confronted by a group of armed individuals who questioned him over his political stance before assaulting him.
He was later airlifted to Nairobi, where he is receiving treatment. His condition has been described as stable, though he sustained serious injuries.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with leaders across the political divide condemning the attack and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.
