Kenya, June 30, 2026 - The government has promoted 530 National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) to the rank of Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), ending an eight-year career stagnation that had affected officers within the National Government Administration.
The announcement was made by Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo during the official opening of an induction training programme for the newly appointed Deputy County Commissioners at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Lower Kabete, Nairobi.
Dr. Omollo described the promotions as one of the largest career advancement exercises undertaken for National Government Administrative Officers at a single time, saying the move reflects the government's commitment to structured career progression and strengthening public service delivery.
He said the newly promoted officers will play a central role in monitoring and evaluating government programmes to ensure effective implementation and accountability at the sub-county level.
"The induction will equip the officers with leadership, coordination and performance management skills required to efficiently deliver government priorities across the country," Dr. Omollo said.
The Principal Secretary noted that the training marks an important milestone in enhancing the capacity of National Government Administrative Officers through continuous professional development.
He also emphasized the critical role Deputy County Commissioners play in advancing national development priorities, maintaining law and order, fostering inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring government programmes and services reach citizens promptly and effectively.
According to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the induction programme is designed to prepare the officers for their expanded responsibilities by strengthening their leadership and administrative competencies.
The government expects the newly appointed Deputy County Commissioners to spearhead implementation of national policies, improve coordination among government agencies and enhance service delivery in sub-counties across the country.
